I’m Gary Richards, an assistant professor of American literature at the University of Mary Washington. My scholarship particularly focuses on the U.S. South, its literary history, and its negotations of race, gender, and sexuality. This semester, in addition to teaching two sections of ENGL 295: Introduction to Literary Studies and ENGL 375XX: American Humor, I’m unofficially auditing Digital Whitman, drawn there by the lure of four personalities: Whitman himself and the three amazing UMW faculty members.
